At the age of fifteen Goldin held her first solo show, based on her photographic journeys among the city's gay and transsexual communities, to which she had been introduced by her friend David Armstrong. Goldin photographed New York's post-punk music culture of the late 1970's, along with the post stonewall gay subculture. By the 1990's most of her subjects were lost to drug overdose or AIDS, and she is recognized for the impact her photographs acheived in the capturing of a historical genre.

she lived 93 of her 96 years on our family's ranch, farming as we have done here in carpinteria for the past 5 generations. she was a wonderful painter of landscapes and flowers, a creative lady who loved to travel. she was full of love and contagious tears-down-the-cheeks laughter. i will miss her so!

The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History recently had an exhibit of bird illustrations from the 16oo's to the 1800's. It was not always easy for these early illustrators to capture a life-like appearance from their taxidermy specimens..some of these birds were in the exhibit, and they looked kind of lumpy with cotton in their eyes.
I have a series of plates I am making inspired by the early bird illustrations- from this turtle dove, to a redwing, to a dodo bird!

I painted the back of this mirror with a bird image that came from a calendar my mom gave me for 2008. She thought I might find the birds inspiring. The mirror is old and wooden- I would love to find more to do paintings on, but they are kind of hard to come by. Let me know if you find one..

I have made jackets for three Miro books, this version twice. The Rodarte designers, Kate and Laura Mulleavy bought the first one. Then I found another copy from the same publishing and painted another cover with the same image- remix!

This painting by my uncle, Steven Brown, was probably made in the 1960's. His paintings are all over the main house on our family's cherimoya ranch. My plate is hanging on the right, which I based on a pattern from the mid-16th century Turkish Iznik period. I have been making ceramics at Santa Barbara Adult Education for the last year. Classes just started up again, and I am working on some new plates..
